Band Council Jurisdiction

These service areas have received delegated authority from the bands to administer these specialized services to their community members; all have a separate Board Of Directors:

• Gitxsan Child and Family Services (GCFSS) independent society (4 Gitksan Bands delegated authority to offer specialized services; Gitanmaax Band Council has  withdrawn political support and are seeking community-based jurisdiction and individual protocols with MCFD); their website 
• Gitksan Health Society (Glen Vowell and Kispiox) 
• Gitanyow Human Services (as an arm of the Band Council): Gitanyow Band with Gitanyow Chiefs/clans as their Board representatives
• Gitksan Wet'suwet'en Education Society - via  Gitanmaax Band to provide education programs to the 7 local bands; no service agreements with the Bands have been formalized 

All of these agencies are invited to participate in the integrated services approach to wrap around supports to community members and to implement the Honoring our Voices, the community 5-year plans. For more information see the Social Supports section.

GGC Board of Directors are also working on the following initiatives via the GGC Executive Director which may include band administrators, as well:

The GGC Board has provided political support to elect a northwest representative to the north region of the First Nations Health Council. Chief Marie Quock has successfully been elected at a northwest regional session to fulfill this northwest regional representative position. The Northwest Health Planning Hub has now transitioned into the Comunity Engagement Hub and Verna Howard is our Gitksan Wet'suwet'en worker. She is located in Gitsegukla.
