Fire Protection Services 

Each Band Council has allocated capital funds to set up a Fire Department  in Gitanyow, Gitanmaax, Glen Vowell and Kispiox. Funds have been allocated for equipment, operations and maintenance and training. Each community consists of a team of volunteer firefighters, with a volunteer Fire Chief in each community. There are a total of 28 Volunteer Firefighters that train annually to provide fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, pre-hospital care and hazards mitigation in the 4 Gitxsan communities. 

Each commuity has a fire hall with a fire truck and equipment such as....

The Councils have mutual aid agreements between eachother and with the Hazelton municipality for fire protection services.   All Gitxsan bands are now part of the 9-1-1 services.
