Band Jurisdiction

These service areas have received delegated authority from the bands to administer these specialized services to their community members; all have a separate Board Of Directors:

• Gitxsan Child and Family Services (GCFSS) independent society (5 Gitksan Bands delegated authority to offer specialized services; Gitanmaax Band has withdrawn political support and are seeking community based jurisdiction)
• Gitksan Health Society (Gitanmaax, Glen Vowell and Kispiox) 
• Gitanyow Human Services Society: Gitanyow Band with Gitanyow Chiefs as their Board representatives

All of these agencies are invited to participate in the community development planning that is beginning a 6 month planning process in the four GGC affiliated communities. For more information see the Community Development Planning section under the Administration Section.

GGC Board of Directors are also working on the following initiatives via the GGC Executive Director which may include band administrators, as well:

AFN - Indian Act; following the proceedings of the National AFN and its interest in moving away from the Indian Act; at this time the GGC Board is interested in expanding its jurisdiction to its maximum potential and AANDC fulfillings its fudiciary obligations before moving away from the Indian Act and taking on the responsibility of self governance.

The GGC Board has provided political support to elect a northwest representative to the north region of the First Nations Health Council. Marj McRae has successfully been elected at a northwest regional session to fulfill this northwest regional representative position until 2012. The Northern regional summary report is now available however very few people have filled it out.

The Northwest Health Planning Hub is now in full swing, with all bands including Moricetown and Hagwilget as part of the health planning to develop health and wellness plans, transition of services to FNHC.
