Fire Protection Services 

Each Band Council has allocated capital funds to set up a Fire Department in Gitanyow, Gitanmaax, Glen Vowell and Kispiox. Funds have been allocated for equipment, operations and maintenance, and training. Each community consists of a team of volunteer firefighters, with a volunteer Fire Chief in each community. There are a total of 28 Volunteer Firefighters that train annually to provide fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, pre-hospital care and hazards mitigation in the 4 Gitxsan communities. 

Each community has a fire hall with a fire truck and equipment.  

The Councils are pursuing a mutual aid agreement between eachother and with the Hazelton municipality for fire protection services.   All Gitxsan bands are now part of the 9-1-1 services.

Recruitment 

The GGC is working with the communities to recruit new volunteers for the fire departments. Check out these ads on the local radio for recruitment!
